

Sekou Keita is a professional musician from Senegal, Music has been passed down through his mother's family over many generations, From the age of three and whilst at school, his family taught him to play the Kora and the Djembe and how to sing. He also learnt to play the Bougarabou (set of 4 drums), Tama (talking drum) and Sabarr. He has performed at Ziguinchor traditional festivals at the age of 7 with his Uncle Salo Cissokho, a popular and well-known Kora player and singer from Ziguinchor, and at the age of 9 he performed in Dakar, Senegal's capital, city. Also performed at other traditional festivals such as circumcisioa ceremonies, At the age of 13, he formed his own group called Coute Diomboulou, performing in schools and festivals supporting other bands. Sekou's toured with his uncle, Salo Cissokho, Sekou performed in Forde in Norway with musicians from India, and Cuba. The group combined the traditional music from each of the countries to create new musical styles. This led to a tour for the group the following year at the global Music Festival in India where they performed with Dr L. Subrymaniam, an internationally renowned violinist and composer. Sekou was invited to take part in Flerkulturell Musikkfestival which took him all over Norway with his Uncle Sadio Cissokho.
